Marguerite Kiely Getlein, age 94, of Beacon Falls, entered into eternal rest July 5, 2014.
She was born in Ansonia on January 12, 1920 daughter of the late John and Marguerite O’Brien Kiely.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 75 years, Joseph Getlein and sister Ellen Kiely Callaghan.
During WWII, Marguerite worked as a “Rosy the Riveter” at the American Brass Co. in Ansonia, calibrating submarine parts for the war effort. Later she worked as a nurse at Griffin Hospital and Grace New Haven Hospital as well as in several doctor’s offices. She retired as a nurse at Dade County Jail in Miami, Florida.
She served as a Eucharistic Minister at her parish in Florida and was president of the AARP.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Getlein Jr. & his wife Corrine of Hickory, N.C. & John “Jack” Getlein of Derby, daughters Katherine Grace and her husband Edmund “Ned” Grace of Beacon Falls & Marguerite “Peg” Sholey of Winston-Salem, N.C., & 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren & several nieces & nephews. She is also survived by her brother John Kiely of Hamden and sister Mary Kiely Mahoney of Ansonia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 11th at 9:30 a.m., with friends asked to go directly to The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7: 00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT.
