Ronald D. Vichiola, age 83, of Trumbull, passed away August 11, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Vichiola was born in Trumbull, CT to the late Michael and Eva Vichiola.
He retired from the United Illuminating Company after 40 years of service. An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the 25th Infantry Division.
He was an avid runner having competed in the Boston Marathon, the New York Marathon, the Yonkers Marathon and the Jersey Shore Marathon. He was a past member of the Hartford Track Club and the Warren Street Social and Athletic Club. He loved animals, especially dogs and took great pride in gardening with his famous home grown tomatoes.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Almira Dombrowski Vichiola of Trumbull, three devoted daughters, Michele (Richard) Van Wart of Shelton, Anne (William III) McMenamey of Trumbull and Laura (Sean) O’Meara of Seymour; one loving brother Robert Vichiola of Naugatuck ; seven cherished grandchildren Taylor and Ryan Van Wart, Kelly, William IV, and Christopher McMenamey and Emily and Olivia O’Meara and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters Shirley, John, Ray, Michael Jr., Arthur and Lucille Vichiola and Laura Shortt.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church 220 Shelton Rd. Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
