Albert E. Norwood, 84, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 23, 2014, at Vitas Hospice in St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the beloved husband of the late Angeline Pasgove Norwood.
Mr. Norwood was born in Derby on April 24, 1930, son of the late John and Violet Bryant Norwood.
A resident of Derby for most of his life, he was employed as a truck driver retiring in 1992 from Yellow Freight in Milford. He was a proud member of Teamsters Local 443 in New Haven. Al previously served on the Board of Alderman in Derby and was a former Derby police commissioner.
He loved to visit Mohegan Sun and Trump Casinos.
He is survived by a son, John Norwood (Katherine) of Derby, two sisters, Martha Hinkson and Ivoryne Lepri of Derby, two granddaughters, Jennifer Collins of Milford and Jeanine Norwood (Harry DeNigris) of Orange, two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Summer Collins, dear nephew, Billy Hinkson Sr. of Derby and several other nieces and nephews.
Visiting will take place on Wednesday August 27, 2014, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 10:30 am a funeral service in celebration of Al’s life will take place with Pastor Jim Wegner officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
