Virgie Walters, 76, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday morning August 29, 2014, at CT Hospice in Branford, following a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry L. Walters Sr.
Mrs. Walters was born in Castleton, Vermont on March 12, 1938, daughter of the late George and Madeline LaRose Sumner. A resident of Derby since 1976, she was devoted to her family and loved animals.
She is survived by three loving sons, Harry L. Walters Jr. (Montrell) of Meriden, Glen Walters and Dale Walters Sr. (Gina) of Derby, two loving daughters, Helen Mitchell (Hubert) of Portal, GA and June Walters of New Haven, four brothers, George Sumner Jr., Richard Sumner, Peter Sumner and Gene Sumner of VT, two sisters, Carrie Hibbard and Janice Stevens of VT, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughters, Barbara Walters and Judith DeScheen, a grandson, Ronald Walters, brothers, Louis LaRose, William Sumner and David Sumner and a sister, Golden Sumner.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday September 3, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, friends and relatives are invited to attend Virgie’s funeral service in celebration of her life at 10:00 am in the funeral parlor with Deacon Richard Renker officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family through the funeral home.
