Salvatore Onofrio, age 84 of Derby, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Birmingham Health Care Center.  He was the devoted husband of 59 years of Frances (Lavorgna) Onofrio.

Sal was born in Puglianello, Italy on August 3, 1931, son of the late Clemente and Assunta Onofrio, and has lived in Derby since immigrating in 1956.

Sal worked as an assembler at American Brass for many years before his retirement over 20 years ago. He was a skilled woodworker and built the home he shared with his wife. He loved finding and using vintage woodworking tools, and scoured flea markets to find them. Sal also enjoyed gardening and caring for his many fruit trees, including the lemon tree he brought with him from Italy. He loved to travel with his wife and particularly loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

He is the beloved father of Susan Connolly, Clemente Onofrio and his wife Gail, Theresa Eisenbach and her husband Greg, and Salvatore Onofrio and his wife Joanne. He also leaves six cherished grandchildren, Jason and Kenny Connolly, Bryant Eisenbach, Nicole Onofrio, Salvatore Onofrio III, and Lina Onofrio, two brothers, Antonio and Marcello Onofrio, his sister Christina Onofrio, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM. On Friday, his procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church, Derby. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Garden Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., PO Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492.
