Obituary: Josephine Boanno, 76, of Derby

Below is a message from Marc J. Garofalo, MPA, Town / City Clerk, City of Derby regarding the death of Josephine Boanno of Derby.

It is with deep regret that I inform you of the passing of Josephine Boanno.  She is the mother of former Alderwoman Donna Carloni and the mother-in-law of BOAT member and Water Pollution Control Authority employee Christopher Carloni. Mrs. Boanno was a kind woman with a gentle smile who had great devotion to her family.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Please join Mayor Anita Dugatto and the entire City of Derby in expressing our condolences to the Boanno and Carloni families during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

Josephine Boanno, 76, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 4, 2016, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Dominick Boanno.

Mrs. Boanno was born in Mondragone, Caserta, Italy on March 27, 1940, daughter of the late Emilio and Nicolina Fusco Coppola.

A resident of Derby for 50 years, she was devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, John Boanno of Derby and Dominick Boanno (Erica) of West Haven, a daughter, Donna Carloni (Christopher) of Derby, a sister, Rose Doppio of Italy, cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Cristina Carloni and Nicholas, Ava, Taylor and Joseph Boanno as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Coppola.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday May 9, 2016, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, her funeral will take place at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Derby. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery.
