Obituary: Mary Lomachinsky, 95, of Prospect, formerly of Ansonia

Mary Lomachinsky, 95, of Prospect, formerly of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, July 4, 2016, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side.

Mrs. Lomachinsky was born in Derby on April 14, 1921, daughter of the late John and Klavia Zelem.

She was a lifelong resident of Ansonia before moving to be with her daughter in Prospect six years ago.

Mary was devoted to her family and was deeply loved by them.

She is survived by a son, John Lomachinsky of Shelton, daughters, Klara Patafio of Beacon Falls, Kathleen Lomachinsky of Prospect and Gloria Mellott of Ansonia, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Demetro Zelem and sisters, Mildred Butrymowicz, Helen Lubera and Esther Kohler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday July 8, 2016, at 10:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Visiting will take place on FRIDAY MORNING from 8:30 am until the service begins. Interment will immediately follow the service in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.


Obituary: Leonardo F. Cirino, 50, of Ansonia

Leonardo F. Cirino, 50, entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2016, at Griffin Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

Lenny was born in Derby on Feb. 5, 1966, beloved son of Carmela Ferlisi Cirino of Ansonia and the late Andrea Cirino.

A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed as a tradesman in the construction business and was the former owner of Straight Edge Construction. He was currently employed as the Warehouse Manager at Ener-G-Tech in Stratford.

Lenny enjoyed music, dancing, cars, shooting, Disney and sweets. He was very fond of animals and pets, especially his late canine buddy Stormy. He loved having a “good time” but above all, he loved his family and always reminisced about family events and how important it is to stay together.

In addition to his mother Carmela, he has one loving sister, Nancy A. Deptula (Edward) of Shelton and is survived by a son, Andrew F. Cirino of Ansonia, step-daughters, Sarah Litvinoff of Shelton and Katie Litvinoff of FL, nephews, Edward and Zachary Deptula, his special love, Maria Landona of Shelton, uncles, Frank Cirino of Seymour and Philip Cirino (Nicolina) of IN, aunts, Toni Tillquist of Derby, Josephine Sileci (Gino) and Maria Cannavo (Nick) of IA, dear friends, Pasquale and Colleen Borgesano of Seymour along with many lifelong loving cousins.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday July 10, 2016, from 2-5 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, his funeral will commence at 9:45 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Obituary: Andrew J. Lotto Sr., 31

Andrew J. Lotto Sr., 31, entered into eternal rest on July 7, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Linda Ngov-Lotto.

Andrew was born in New Haven on June 22, 1985 loving son of John J. and Rosemarie Reagan Lotto Sr. of Ansonia.

He was employed as a customer service rep. at Eastern Accounts in Brookfield.

He enjoyed shooting pool and singing. Andy was a son, brother, husband, father, nephew, uncle and friend. He had a contagious smile and goofy personality that could cheer you up on the worst of days.

Andy wanted nothing more than to be a father and pass along his joyful nature. He realized this dream last year when he married his best friend, Linda, and together they brought a beautiful son, Andrew J. Lotto Jr., into the world. Just as he loved his entire family, he also loved this little boy with his whole heart and was ready to be the best father he could be.

In addition to his wife, son, mother and father, he is survived by a brother, John “J.” Lotto Jr. of Seymour, sisters, Dawn Lotto-Sturwold and Amanda Lotto Mollo of Ansonia and Samantha Lotto of Naugatuck, a step-son, Issac Kerwin and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday July 12, 2016, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, his funeral service will take place at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Krugel officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.

Obituary: Louise Hosko, 92, of Ansonia

Louise Hosko, age 92, a longtime Ansonia resident on Francis St., currently of Seymour, entered into eternal rest July 7 at Shady Knoll Health Center.

She was a lifelong member of The Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, and was predeceased by her sister Anna Hosko.

She is survived by her cousins Mary Breyan of Ansonia & Carol Zavednak of Seymour.

Funeral services will be held on Monday,  July 11 at 6:30 P.M. at The Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. She will be buried in the family plot on Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. graveside in Three Saints Cemetery in Derby.

Obituary: Steve Bobin Jr., 88

Steve Bobin Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2016 at Maple View Manor in Rocky Hill, CT. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Evelyn Maloney Bobin.

Steve was born in Fayette City, PA on January 3, 1928, son of the late Steve and Rose Bobin.

He worked in the Vista Coal Mines before joining the U.S. Army in 1950. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War, serving in the Military Police.  Steve received his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven and worked for United Aircraft and Sikorsky Aircraft before retiring in 1989.

Steve was a member of the CWV Post 1562, American Legion Post 50, and American-Russian Citizens Club. Steve enjoyed golfing, bowling, cooking, gardening, and watching sports.

He will be remembered for his kind nature, good advice, quiet sense of humor, and unwavering love and dedication for his family.

In addition to his wife Evelyn, he is survived by a loving daughter, Lisa Bagley (Bill Carlson) of Newington, CT, a loving son, Steve Bobin (Kimberly) of Wethersfield, CT, loving daughter Stacey Martin (Tony) of Santa Rosa, CA; cherished grandchildren Alexander Bobin, Michael Bobin, and Maxwell Martin, sister in law, Mary Irene DellaRocco of Ansonia, CT, brother in law, Donald Maloney of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday July 11, 2016, from 5-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Obituary: Salvatore T. Cavagnuolo, 98, of Derby

Salvatore T. Cavagnuolo, 98, of Derby, entered into eternal rest on July 11, 2016, at Bishop Wicke H.C. in Shelton. He was the loving husband of 58 years to the late Theresa Ladona Cavagnuolo.

Mr. Cavagnuolo was born in Derby on July 18, 1917, son of the late Salvatore and Anna Raucci Cavagnuolo.

He was a graduate of Derby High School in 1935. As a young man, Sal played basketball and softball as a member of the Lafayette A.C. He was employed at Apex Tool and Blumenthal’s and later at Sikorsky Aircraft for 32 years, until his retirement as a foreman in 1979.

Sal was an avid reader and could often be found with his buddies at the Derby Neck Library. He loved doing the crossword puzzles and cryptograms found in the CT Post on a daily basis. Up until a few days before his passing, he still did crossword puzzles with his daughter and son.

Sal was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Derby and a member of its Catholic Men’s Club. He was also a member of the “Osborndale Gang”.

Sal is survived by his children, Ann Marie Mirisola (Charles) of Derby, Louise Ann Lombardi (Joseph) of Ansonia and Joseph Cavagnuolo (Marlene) of Trumbull, cherished grandchildren, Marci Mirisola (Melissa Picone), Melissa Shea (Daniel), Caren Fauci (Thomas) and Jared Cavagnuolo (Stephanie), great-grandchildren, Max Salvatore Picone-Mirisola, Thomas “T.J.”, Tyler and Talia Fauci, Marissa and Brandon Shea and Jude Thomas Cavagnuolo. He is also survived by brothers, Ralph and John Cavagnuolo and a sister, Catherine Pereiras all of Derby and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his companion and friend of many years, Mary Genga, brothers, Domenic, Louis, Fred and Frank Cavagnuolo and sisters, Mary Belford and Concetta Wasko.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 13, 2016, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church in Derby. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Obituary: Gregory John Barna, 52, of Beacon Falls

On Tuesday June 28, 2016, Gregory John Barna died peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Beacon Falls, CT, at the age of 52.

Greg is survived by his two sons, Zachary John Barna and Andrew John Barna, and his former wife Diane Heavens Barna of Seymour Ct . He is also survived by his siblings Valerie Barna Clapp of New Milford, CT and Eric Barna and his wife Grace of Poughkeepsie, NY. He leaves behind two aunts, Frances Rozum of Waterbury, CT, and Helen Badini of Potomac, MD, as well many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mamie Barna of Seymour CT. 

Greg was born at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT on December 29, 1963 to Mamie and Michael Barna. He graduated from Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in 1981. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1990, and served 10 years as an aircraft power plant repairer. His service included a tour of duty in Bosnia as well as several other overseas tours.  During his service, Greg was awarded many decorations; the Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Nato Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, just to name a few.  He was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 2000.

Gregory lived in Seymour, CT for most of his life, and after leaving the military he worked as a high voltage electrical technician for DES, which is currently CBS in Seymour, CT until his retirement in 2015.

Gregory was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 65 in Seymour/Oxford, and he enjoyed nothing more than camping and participating in scouting activities with his sons. He was well known for his camping culinary skills.

Visiting hours and a memorial service are scheduled for July 12, 2016 at the Ralph E Hull  Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. in Seymour, CT. Visiting hours will be from 5 PM to 7 PM followed by a brief military memorial service.

Burial at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT, with full Military Honors, will be at the convenience of the family.

Florence Masiak age 94 a lifetime resident of Seymour entered peaceful rest on July 6, 2016 at Gardner Heights Health Center, Shelton. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Masiak.

Mrs. Masiak was born December 29, 1921 in Seymour, daughter of the late August and Anna (Hafersat) Krause.

Florence was a communicant of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oxford; she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She also was fond of travel, painting, and gardening.

Florence leaves her devoted and loving son Kevin Masiak of Seymour. Her sister, Martha Bates, and brother, Arthur Krause predeceased her.

Friends may call on Sunday July 17th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church,  25 Great Hill Road, Oxford. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Trinity Cemetery, Seymour.

Cindy Marie Donofrio DeBiase, 48, of Marion, South Carolina, formerly of Beacon Falls and Seymour, entered into rest peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Tidelands Community Hospice House, Georgetown, S.C. 

She was born in Derby, CT on June 25, 1968, daughter of the late Patricia Bagley Kummer and Donald Donofrio, Jr. of Conway, S.C.

She was presently a student at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Cindy enjoyed hiking, and was an avid homemaker. She was devoted  her family and friends and will remain forever in their hearts.

Her loving family includes her beloved sons, Karl M. DeBiase, Jr. of  Marion, S.C., Joshua Sanderson of Marion, S.C. her loving brother Donald Donofrio , III of New York and her caring step-father Donald Kummer of Virginia.   

A Funeral Service in Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held on Friday, July15, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour.  Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 14, 2016  5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Interment will follow in the family plot at Trinity Cemetery, Seymour,CT.

John C. “Charlie” D’Agostino, 77, entered into eternal rest on July 12, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary Kennedy D’Agostino.

Mr. D’Agostino was born in Derby on Oct. 21, 1938, son of the late John “Charlie” and Clara White D’Agostino.

A resident of Ansonia for 50 years, he was employed at Northeast Stihl in Shelton and later in the cafeteria at Ansonia High School, until his retirement. John honorably served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by a loving daughter, Sherri Nimons and her husband Mark, grandson, John C. Nimons, step-grandson, Mark M. Nimons, all of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph D’Agostino and a sister, Evelyn Lapota.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday July 23, 2016, at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1 Platt Road in Shelton. William “Bill” F. Brown, age 82, a longtime Valley resident also of Leesburg, FL., passed away July 1 2016. 

He was born March 27, 1934 in New Haven.

A Veteran of the U.S. Navy and former Civil Defense member. As a young man he worked as a mechanic and then as an electrician for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford.

Bill was an avid car enthusiast and member of the Roaring ‘20’s Car Club, a HAM radio enthusiast (W1EGL), and a member of The Valley Heart Club.

He is survived by his three children Diane Appicelli of Ansonia, Wendy Brown Mignosa of Hamden & Bill Brown of Torrington, as well as fiancé Arlene Hughes of Leesburg, Fl. He also leaves 3 grandchildren Robert, Isabella & Gabriella Mignosa and will be remembered as beloved “Willard” by Karlene, Katie, Libby, Kimberly, and Mitchell.

He was predeceased by his wife Susan Brown and four sisters Rose, Alice, Dorothy & Madeline.

Obituary: Nicholas G. Collicelli, 64, of Ansonia

Nicholas G. Collicelli, 64, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning July 19, 2016, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Christine Student Collicelli (aka “The Bride”).

Nick was born in Derby on Dec. 17, 1951, son of the late Conrad and Josephine Cinquemani Collicelli. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed by the Hamden Board of Education for 33 years, most recently as the Director of Social Studies, until his retirement in 2007. He later was an Adjunct Professor of Education at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. He was a former member of the Ansonia Board of Education and former Democratic Town Committee Chairman in Ansonia.

In addition to his Bride, Nick is survived by sons, Nicholas (Jaimie Biga) of Derby, Adam (Victoria)  and Steven of Boston, MA, in-laws, William and Matrona Regan of Orange and Michael and Joan Student of Milford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick was an educator, mentor and friend whose advice and guidance inspired countless lives. His efforts to fight prejudice and bridge the generations were realized through his beloved Human Relations Club, which he initially founded in Hamden and more recently in Ansonia, Derby and Shelton. The initiatives of the Human Relations Club have had a transformative impact on people of all ages, from kindergartners to senior citizens.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 21, 2016, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 10:00 am, (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.

Obituary: Joshua “Josh” Hansen, 38, of Ansonia

Joshua “Josh” Hansen, 38, of Ansonia, suddenly and unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital.

Born in Derby on April 17, 1978, he was the son of Larry D. (Florence) Hansen and Laura Thomas and her former spouse, Dwayne Thomas. 

Josh was a lifelong Ansonia resident, attended public schools and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1996.  He worked as a landscaper for Cutting Edge Landscaping for over 10 years and for Zani’s Pizza in Ansonia making and delivering pizzas. 

He loved the outdoors! He enjoyed hiking with his dad, playing horse shoes, and all sports; he especially enjoyed watching his brothers Ryan and Alex play football at Ansonia and Yale.  He was often found goofing around with his nieces and nephews or being a perch for his numerous feathered friends (cockatiels).

Josh and his beloved companion, Elizabeth Alvarez, experienced their greatest joy this past August when their son Isaiah Christopher Hansen arrived 14 weeks early. Josh lovingly embraced his new role as a father; he visited Isaiah daily in hospitals during his first 9 months and diligently learned how to provide the necessary medical care so that Isaiah could come home. In those moments, especially while donning matching outfits, Josh wore a smile that lit up the world.

In addition to his parents, beloved companion, and son, he is survived by his brothers, Jeremiah (Maria) Hansen, Ryan Thomas, Alex Thomas, Carnell Thomas, and Antone Wheeler; his sisters, Melissa Thomas and Lavera Thomas; as well as his Uncle Jim and Aunt Jessie, and many other family members and friends. 

He was predeceased by his brother, Isaiah Hansen and maternal grandparents Jim and Joanne Budkus.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 10:00 to 1:00 pm at the Seymour Evangelical Baptist Church, 104 Mountain Rd., Seymour. A service celebrating Josh’s life will take place immediately after at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will be private.

John F. Lauretti Jr.

John F. Lauretti Jr., 65, of Temple, Texas, formerly of Connecticut, husband of Marion Lauretti, died July 16, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. His final days were spent surrounded by his wife, siblings, and his two dogs, Jake and Dexter.

Born in Derby on Feb. 10, 1951, son of the late John F. and Margaret Rose Savignano Lauretti Sr.

John was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included The Boston Red Sox, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Sutter Terlizzi Post # 16 in Shelton. John loved to cook,and eat good food, but especially loved vacationing at the shore and spending time with his family. His warm smile and pleasant disposition will be deeply missed by his family in Connecticut and Texas.

John is the father of Matthew Lauretti, of Bologna Italy, the brother of Mayor Mark A. Lauretti and his wife, Andee, Allegra Fitzgerald, and her husband, Paul, and Luke Lauretti. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by a brother, David Lauretti.

Donald Gerald Girard, age 83 of Seymour, the beloved husband of  50 years to Marianne Brezosky Girard, peacefully entered into eternal rest on, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. 

Mr. Girard was in born Manchester, New Hampshire, on April 18, 1933, the son of the late Victor and Bernice Ruiter Girard.

Donald was a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church.  He was a longtime self employed carpenter. Donald proudly served  in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy  Seabees  during the Korean War.  Donald was a professional water-skier. He was a member of the senior snow skiers patrol at Powder Ridge and Mohawk Mountains. Donald was a 4th Degree member of Assembly #1857 Knights of Columbus of Seymour, since 1968 and served as  a honor guard member. He will be sadly missed by all and will always remain forever in our hearts.

In addition to his beloved wife Marianne,  Donald  is survived by his two caring sons Jeffrey (Leslie) Girard of Seymour and Victor Girard of St.Louis, MO, a loving daughter  Melissa Girard of Naugatuck. He is also survived by his three cherished grandchildren Brianna, Hilary and Donte

Friends and relatives may call the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour, on Monday July 25, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:00 am (Directly) at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave, Seymour.  Interment with full honors will be at State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery, Middletown.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Donald’s memory may be made to The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, through the funeral home.
