Obituary: Joseph M. Dulla, 86, of Ansonia

Dulla1Joseph Martin Dulla, age 86, of Ansonia, loving husband of Cecilia (Varga) Dulla, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Griffin Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side.

Born in Hrabusice, Czechoslovakia on November 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Matilda (Hodak) Dulla.

Dulla2A U.S. Army veteran, Joseph served in Germany as a Morse Code Operator. Joseph was retired from Farrel Corporation after 33 years of service as a machinist and foreman. He was a member of the Farrel Old Timer’s Club, the Catholic War Veterans, the Slovak Catholic Sokol and a communicant of the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia.

During his younger years, he was involved with the Slovak Club in Ansonia where he was permittee for many years, and enjoyed playing pool, winning many tournaments. He continued to play pool during his retirement at the Fairfeld Senior Center.

Joseph was a dedicated family man and devoted Catholic, always putting the needs of others first. He was a master mechanic and jack of all trades. He spent much of his retirement gardening and helping his loving daughter, Martha, with handyman projects at the Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby.

Besides his loving wife of 50 years, Cecilia, survivors include his sister, Irma Lapsanska of Slovakia, children, Martha (Carl) Andrade of Derby, Joseph P. (Robyn) Dulla of Ansonia, Anthony Dulla of Derby and MaryAnn (Ron) Dulla-Smith of Derby, granddaughter, Tabitha Dulla of Charlston, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews in Slovakia.

He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony Dulla, and sister, Valerie Krajcovic-Dulla.

His funeral will be held on Friday, March 13, at 9:45 a.m., from the Bennett Funeral Home 91 N.Cliff Street,Ansonia to the Church of the Assumption for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Calling hours Thursday from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church in care of the funeral home.
