Helen Nesevitch Jenks

Helen Nesevitch Jenks, age 82 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Joseph B. Jenks, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on December 15, 2014.

Born on June 25, 1932 in Olyphant, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stephen A. and Helen Motel Nesevitch.

Mrs. Jenks was a lifelong resident of Ansonia and devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church where she participated in the choir and the sodality. She was a graduate of Housatonic Community College and Sacred Heart University where she earned a B.A. in Business Administration. She was employed as a Secretary for the Farrel Co. for over 33 years, until her retirement in 1997.

Together with her husband, she enjoyed traveling the world, visiting locations like Hawaii, South America and Mexico. Traveling with the “Blue Army” Mrs. Jenks made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, France. She enjoyed flying with her husband in their Cherokee 180 airplane. Together they flew hundreds of hours over New England, the East Coast and Florida to air shows and army reunions.

Mrs. Jenks is survived by her beloved sister, Nellie Krynitzky of Ansonia; as well as several cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Sniechowski and brother, Rev. Joseph S. Nesevitch.

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 9:00 A.M. from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M, Panikhida at 5:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Preservation Fund.

Ricky A. Meeker of Seymour passed away suddenly on the morning of December 16, 2014.

He was born on May 11, 1954 to Herb and Nancy (Bayne) Meeker.

Ricky was the kindest person who could never say a bad word about anyone. His passions include cooking a great meal and reading a good book (especially Stephen King); he also loved the music of Bruce Springsteen.

Ricky is survived by his wife Nora Meeker, his daughter, Jacklyn S. Meeker, two stepsons Jess and Jason Haines; he was the brother of Ray and Sue Meeker, Randy and Joanna Meeker, and Cheryl and James Gustaveson.

He was predeceased by his brother Ronnie Meeker.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church Street, Seymour.

Ramon Quinones, age 81 of Seymour, entered peaceful rest on December 15, 2014 at CT Hospice, Branford; he was the beloved husband of Maria (Serrano) Quinones.

Mr. Quinones was born January 8, 1933 in Puerto Rico.

He was a retired Facility Maintenance Supervisor at Pitney Bowes, Stamford.

Ramon’s character preceded him as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather. Ramon will be remembered for his kindness, being a good provider, and a hard worker.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Quinones also leaves his loving family including a son, Jose Quinones of Danbury, a daughter, Marilyn Feliciano (Manny) of Seymour, his brothers, Luis and Jose Quinones and sisters, Carmen, Sandra, and Meri Quinones all in Puerto Rico, his grandsons, Joshua and Nathaniel Feliciano of Seymour, and several nieces and nephews.

Services and interment are private. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour is entrusted with the arrangements.

Joan P. Poeta, 77, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on December 13, 2014, at Griffin Hospital, following a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Poeta.

Mrs. Poeta was born on March 17, 1937, daughter of the late John Randazise and Lee Passander Marino.

She is survived by a loving daughter, Patricia A. Poeta of Ansonia, two sisters, Laura Daddio of Virginia and Patricia Sentimentes of Danbury and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Randazise.

Mrs. Wasko was born September 28, 1922 in Naugatuck daughter of the late Leopold and Sophia (Geyda) Maryanski.

She leaves her loving family including her daughter, Bonita Angiolillo of Lady Lake, FL, 3 sons, Edward Rynecki of Buford, SC, William W. Wasko, III (Maria) of Seymour, and Kenneth Wasko (Deborah) of Seymour, 4 grandchildren, Eric, Ken, Jr., Katie, and Beth, and 2 great grandchildren, Evan and Kirra, and several nieces and nephews.

Eileen P. Pedevillano, 71, a resident of Seymour for 42 years, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 14, 2014, at CT Hospice in Branford. She is the beloved wife of Joseph Pedevillano Sr.

Mrs. Pedevillano was born in Bridgeport on Sept. 28, 1943, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Burke Dinan.

Eileen’s life focused around family, friends and children. She enjoyed holidays, cooking and spending time with her cherished grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Joseph P. Pedevillano Jr. (Melodie) of Nebraska and Michael L. Pedevillano of Seymour, daughters, Michele Downs (Joseph) and Lisa M. Raymond (Paul) of Seymour and Melissa Pedevillano of VA, grandchildren, Joseph Downs Jr., Nicole and Alyssa Downs, Jamie, Morgan and Jack Raymond and Alexis Pedevillano, 3 great grandchildren, brothers, James and Michael Dinan, sisters, Patricia Pihonak, Frances Stoll, Barbara Andes, Rosemary Giambra, Shirley McFadden, Virginia Guilmette, Constance Guggenheim and Peggy Carvalho and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Robert and John Dinan and a sister, Betty Jump.

Friends and relatives may greet the family on Thursday December 18, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Judith was born May 6, 1939, the loving daughter of the late R. Eleanor (Worden) and Charles ‘Kirtland’ Todd of Yalesville, CT.

In addition to her husband, Judith’s loving family includes a son Frederick (Barbara) Camp,III , a daughter Wendy Camp, her brother Bruce (Carol) Todd of Michigan, her sister Pamela (Ned) Evans of Texas, her adored granddaughter Cara Camp, a beloved goddaughter Kim (Bill)Zarra Wieler, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved son Roger Camp.

A Celebration of the Life of Judith Camp will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm (Directly) at Trinity Episcopal Church, 91 Church St., Seymour, CT. Stephen J. Mankulics

Stephen J. Mankulics, age 79, husband of Florence M. Keefe Mankulics and resident of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest Dec. 18.

He was born May 28, 1935 in Ansonia, son of the late Stephen and Adele Lastaukas Mankulics.

A veteran of the Army, he worked for the Veterans’ Hospital and on the Army Reserves Base in the petroleum division. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 50 and the Catholic War Veterans. He was a parishioner of The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia, and a member of The Knights of Columbus, Ansonia’s ‘North Enders’ Club, the Central Subalpi Club and The Charter Hose Fire Co.

In addition to his wife Florence, he leaves his son, Stephen M. Mankulics (Nancy) of Ansonia, daughter Nancy Osiecki of Derby, 2 sisters Adele Urbon & Lillian Marganski, both of Ansonia, 4 grandchildren, Roy Alberti, Jamie Osiecki, and Michael & Trent Mankulics, special nephew Michael Keefe, special niece Maureen Keefe and several other nieces & nephews.

William J. Hemenway Jr., 80, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 19, 2014, at Birmingham Health Care in Derby.

Mr. Hemenway was born in Derby on May 30, 1934, son of the late William J. and Mary Harmon Hemenway.

A resident of Ansonia for most of his life, he was employed as an auto mechanic. A proud veteran, he honorably served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Air Force. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Derby.

He is survived by sons, William J. Hemenway III of Seymour, John D. Hemenway and his wife Lori of Shelton and Keith L. Hemenway and his wife Deborah of SC, brothers, John “Jack” Hemenway of AZ and Thomas “Tim” Hemenway of Ansonia, sisters, Mary Sampiere of FL and Veronica Lepri of Seymour, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Belanger.

William F. Fitzgerald, age 78 of Ansonia, beloved husband for 52 years to Margaret (Filarsky) Fitzgerald, entered into eternal rest December 27, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Born in Derby, Ct. on September 22, 1936 to the late David and Catherine McGrath Fitzgerald.

Bill was a Veteran of U.S. Marine Corp., a parishioner of The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia and a member of the Catholic War Veterans. He worked as a head mechanic for The City of Ansonia until his retirement. Bill was a 57 year member, past Captain of the Charters Hose Fire Company # 4 in Ansonia and a past Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Ansonia Democratic Town Committee.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his son David Fitzgerald and wife Donna of Milford, daughter, Carolyn (Fitzgerald) Roshkowski and husband Kenneth of Tolland, sisters Kathleen Geloso of Woodbridge and Nora Kenny of West Warwick, R.I. He also leaves four grandchildren, Makayla and Joseph Roshkowski and David and Makenzie Fitzgerald and several nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Margaret Kellogg.

Nancy Lee Christian DiMauro of Shelton, formerly of Ansonia, passed peacefully Monday morning December 22, 2014 surrounded by family in her longtime Shelton home.

Nancy was born on November 8th 1941 to Ann and Edward Christian of Ansonia, Connecticut, where she grew up with her five siblings, Audrey, Barbara, Tom, Jim, and Lynn. Nancy attended Ansonia High School, where she was captain of the majorettes and graduate of the class of 1959.

Nancy married her High School sweetheart and the love of her life, Nicholas Michael DiMauro, in 1961. The couple lived in Shelton for the rest of their lives and raised their two children, Lori and Michael in this this wonderful community.

Nancy and Nicholas owned DiMauro’s Dairy Bar, which was a Shelton strong hold for nearly 50 years, where locals would enjoy daily chat, great home cooked food and marvelous hospitality. Nancy was active in the community, as a business leader and President of the Sunnyside School PTA for many years.

Nancy loved her community, customers, friends, entertaining, cooking and especially baking, which always included an extensive assortment of Christmas cookies. Most of all, Nancy loved her family. She had the pleasure of living adjacent to her daughter’s Shelton home, where her grandchildren Mark, Alex and Casey ran freely between Mimi’s and Mommy’s.

Nancy’s joy also sourced from the loving active energy of her grandchildren Sebastian, Benjamin, Madison, Brennan of Woodbridge. Nancy taught her grandchildren how to cook Mimi’s sauce, pasta fagiolo soup, home-made pizza, cookies and cakes, but most importantly, they learned how to respect and care for others.

Nancy is survived by her son Michael DiMauro, daughter-in-law Jodi, daughter Lori Carotenuto, son-in-law Mark, seven grandchildren Mark, Alex, Casey, Sebastian, Benjamin, Madison and Brennan, two sisters Barbara Casagrande and Audrey Dreyer, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a caring and loving individual who positively impacted thousands of lives over the course of her own.

Friends are invited to celebrate Nancy’s life on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11 AM at Saint Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton, CT 06484.

Constance B. Sexton, age 69, beloved wife of Robert F. Sexton of Beacon Falls, entered into peaceful rest on Dec. 27, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital.

She was born on August 4, 1945 in Bridgeport and was the daughter of George Brogan, Sr. of Cool Ridge, West Virginia and the late Margaret (Luddy) Brogan.

Connie was a Respiratory Therapist for 20 years at Griffin Hospital, Derby and the last 5 years worked at Norwalk Hospital in Hyperbaric Medicine.

Connie was a member of the Marine Corp. League Auxiliary, Valley Unit, past president of the Dept. of CT MCL Auxiliary and also past vice president of the MCL Auxiliary, New England Division. She was a caregiver to everyone she met. Connie was an avid bowler.

In addition to her husband and father, Connie leaves four children, Robert (Meghan) Fiero of Bethel, Kenneth Fiero of Seymour, Michael Fiero of Kansas City, Missouri, and Michele Lucas of Southington and two grandchildren, Erica Patterson and Rebecca Payne, a brother, Kenneth (Karen) Brogan of Cool Ridge, West Virginia and five step children, Darlene, Robert, Richard, Doreen Sexton and Kathleen Duty.

She was predeceased by a brother, George Brogan, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 12 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Roland P. Cyr, 86, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 23, 2014, at Masonicare in Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Claire Maietto Cyr.

Mr. Cyr was born in Rumford, Maine on March 17, 1928, son of the late Edmond and Elise O’Clair Cyr.

A resident of Derby for twenty years, he was previously employed as an electrical technician at Avco Lycoming in Stratford. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Cyr (Judy) of Fairfield, a daughter, Stacey Spagnuolo (Joseph) of Fairfield, a brother, Omer Cyr (Ruth) of Monroe, grandchildren, Ryan and Jeremy Cyr of Fairfield and several nieces and nephews.

Paul Kosciuszek, age 70, a lifelong Seymour resident entered peaceful rest on December 26, 2014 at the Griffin Hospital, Derby.

Mr. Kosciuszek was born August 12, 1944 in Germany, son of the late Naum and Anna (Olesik) Kosciuszek.

He was a retired welder having worked at Oxford Soil Testing, and also Universal Welding, Watertown.

Paul is survived by his sisters, Tania Lechnowsky of Rochester, NY, and Maria Chvirko of New Haven, several nieces and nephews, and his dear friends Sheri and Philip DeAngelis of Oxford.

His brothers John and Nikolay predeceased him.

Kevin L. Daly Jr., 29, of Naugatuck, entered into eternal rest on December 23, 2014. He was the loving fiancé of Margo Zdorojewski of Naugatuck.

Kevin was born in Derby on April 5, 1985, beloved son of Debra Pompi Daly of Naugatuck and the late Kevin L. Daly Sr.

He was employed as a master technician for First Transit in Hamden and previously as a construction mechanic for DiGiovanni & Sons Construction of Derby.

Kevin was a member of St. Sebastian Men’s Club in Ansonia and a plate holder in CT for BMX bicycle racing.

In addition to his mother and fiancé, he is survived by his stepfather, Jeffrey Eldridge of Naugatuck, maternal grandmother, Irma Bruciati Fellows and her husband Robert Fellows of Naugatuck, loving aunt, Donna DiGiovanni and her husband Gino of Oxford, cousins, Gino DiGiovanni, Mathew DiGiovanni and Nicholas DiGiovanni of Derby and many friends.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Pompi and paternal grandparents, Patricia and Bart Daly.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 28, 2014, from 3-6 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, his funeral will be held at 10:00 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary Church in Derby. Interment will follow in the family plot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Geraldine Patavino, age 88, of Ansonia, the beloved wife of 47 years to the late Horace Patavino, entered into rest peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour.

She was born in New York City on February 28, 1926, daughter of the late Albert and Helen Brummer Anderson.

Geraldine was the long time part owner of Advanced Metals Technologies of Branford where she worked until she was 83. She was a graduate of the Butler Business School and also received a degree from the University of Bridgeport.

Geraldine enjoyed playing bingo at the Ansonia Senior Center and traveling with her loving husband Horace. Geraldine will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will always remain forever in their hearts.

Her loving family includes her two sons, John Patavino and his wife Kathy of Ansonia and David Besse of Old Greenwich, her brother Larry Anderson and his wife Elizabeth of Largo, FL., her cherished grandchildren John Patavino, Jr., Christine Corchard-Keeler (Ryan), Anthony Patavino, Vincent Patavino (Katie) and Heather Cesaroni (Geno), her cherished great grandson Tyler Ross and several loving nieces and nephews.

Geraldine was predeceased by her brother Albert Anderson and her sister Barbara Anderson.

All services are private and will be at the convenience of the family. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home of Seymour is compassionately caring for the family.

Barry J. “Superman” Flax, 62, of Ansonia entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2014.

The eldest of 7 children, Barry was born February 7, 1952 in Derby, CT to the late James Sr. and Delores Barnett Flax.

Educated in the Ansonia school system Barry worked for the former Andy’s Bakery and Ansonia Housing Authority. In 1970 he went to work with the City of Ansonia, Dept. of Public Works where he worked 40+ perfect attendance years, retiring in August 2012.

Barry was a collector of comic books from age 12 and amassed an impressive collection of Marvel and DC comics. He was also an avid New York Giants fan. Barry was a Social member of Charter’s Hose Co., #4, Hillside Café, Positive Men’s Organization, and PM Lounge, JRB’s and Antonio’s Restaurants. A lover of food and comics, Barry was a true friend and the best big brother who was loved and will be greatly missed.

Barry is survived by siblings, James Flax Jr., New Haven, Richard Flax Sr., Ansonia, Mary & Gail Flax and Carolyn Gardner of Ansonia and John Flax of Danbury. Also 3 nephews, 3 nieces, 3 great nephews, and 1 great niece, 7 aunts, 1 uncle, cousins and a host of loving friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, CT. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) Calling hours: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Service at 12 p.m. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Henrica “Rachel” Mertens Dziubina

Henrica “Rachel” Mertens Dziubina, age 95 of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Bohdan J. Dziubina, entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2015, with her family by her side.

Born in Belgium on October 14, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Theophiel Edgard and Marie Madeleine Van Melkebeke Mertens.

Rachel immigrated to America with her family in 1957 and became a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. She worked in several positions and eventually became the Bindery Supervisor at the former Charlton Press, Inc in Derby.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Vladimir “Walt” Dziubina and his wife Karen of Ansonia and Pierre Dziubina and his wife Cheryl of Shelton; cherished grandsons, Christopher Dziubina and his wife Michelle and Jason Dziubina and his wife Victoria, Michael and Matthew Dziubina; cherished great-grandsons, Christopher and Preston Dziubina; her sister-in-law, Dozia Bystrianyk and her husband Wasyl of Orange; as well as many nieces, nephews and relatives in Belgium.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, she was predeceased by five brothers and sisters in Belgium.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 8:45 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM, in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 8:45 to 9:45 AM, prior to Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT, 06106.
