Joseph J. Klezovich

America has lost another Navy veteran from the greatest generation there was. Joseph J. Klezovich, age 91, went peacefully to greet The Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

He was born in Derby on October 21, 1923, beloved son of the late John and Bertha Woycik Klezovich.

Joe was a union carpenter and a longtime member of the United Brotherhood of Carpentry and Joiners of America Local 24. He was a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church of Seymour.

Joe proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the David S. Miles Post 174 American Legion of Oxford. He loved being on the American Legion drill team and enjoyed making wooden toys for his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joe was an avid UCONN girl’s basketball fan, wood craftsman and loved being with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe surpassed his goal of living to age 90.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 65 years Florence Seri Klezovich and his children Thomas and Patricia Klezovich of Seymour, Joe Klezovich of Seymour, Cheryl and Richard Gardella-Slinko of Stratford, Cathy and Chuck Guerra of Seymour and Rose and Mickey Ruchin of Seymour. His grandchildren Shawn and Mary Evans Klezovich of California, Neil Klezovich of Seymour, Darcy Bunting of Southbury, Michael Gardella of New York, Cathryn and David Gardella-Lenart of Derby, Amanda and Christopher Gardella-Zak of Milford, David Slinko of New York, Michael Slinko of Pennsylvania, Emily Slinko of Maryland, Nicole Guerra of Boston, Jillian and Sam Ruchin of Seymour and Erynn and Cassie Zak of Milford. His great grandchildren Mason and Stone Lee, Tyler and Kayla Klezovich and Victoria Depoto.

He was predeceased by his daughter- in law Elizabeth Klezovich.

A Funeral Service in Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 9:00 am in the chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment, with fully military honors, will be in the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Alexander “Alex” Bedard, age 26, of Derby entered into rest on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

He was born in Bridgeport on November 12, 1988 beloved son of Nancy Langdon of Derby and Claude Bedard and his companion Karen Blank of Milford

Alex graduated Derby High School in 2007 with high honors. He was artistic, witty and had a great sense of humor. Alex was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all, he enjoyed hanging out with his friends.

He is the loving brother of Samuel Bedard, Tegan Bedard, and Nicholas Kirby. He is the nephew of Johanne Henderson and her husband Eddie, Karen Lee, Helen Bolduc and her husband Claude and Aline Dowd and her husband Robert. Alex is also survived by his paternal grandmother Berthe LeFrancois and many cousins Jennie Shifflett, EJ Henderson, Kristen Henderson, Scott Baker, Mathieu Bolduc, Maxime Bolduc, and Danielle Stinson.

Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home 253 Elizabeth Street Derby. His funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

Alexander S. Napierkowski

Alexander S. Napierkowski, 91, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2015, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Agnes M. Siwiec Napierkowski.

Mr. Napierkowski was born in Ansonia on June 25, 1923, son of the late Stephan “Stanley” Napierkowski and Alexandra Drevelus Waskewicz.

A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed as an aircraft machinist at Avco Lycoming/Textron in Stratford until his retirement.

Al was a sports enthusiast, an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed tending to his fruit trees in his yard.

He is survived by a loving daughter, Patricia Ann Rosenfeld and her husband Richard Rosenfeld D.D.S. of Bethany, a sister, Ann Grillo of CA, cherished grandchildren, Susan Rosenfeld of New York, NY, Janice Rosenfeld of Bethany, Erica Stein and her husband Jeffrey of Milford and Marc Rosenfeld of Hamden, a great grandchild on the way and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Edward Napier and Walter Napierkowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 6, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Assumption, 61 North Cliff Street in Ansonia. Springtime interment will take place in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton. Visiting hours will take place on Friday morning from 9:00 am until the procession leaves for church at the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.

Penny P. Kovzel, age 68 of Oxford entered peaceful rest February 3, 2015 at the Griffin Hospital, Derby; she was the beloved wife of Stephen J. Kovzel.

Mrs. Kovzel was born December 4, 1946 in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late Michael and Alice (Morris) Politis.

Penny was a retired Telecom Operator from Griffin Hospital. She was a member of the David S. Miles Post 174 American Legion Auxiliary; she was also a former 911 Dispatcher for the Oxford Ambulance Association.

Penny enjoyed flea markets and fishing, and was a NY Yankees Fan. She was lover of dogs, and rescued many.

In addition to her husband, Penny leaves her loving family including her daughter, Michelle Passander of Oxford, a son, John Kovzel (Angela Nicole) of McDonough, GA, 3 grandchildren, Caden, Shelby, and Colton Kovzel of McDonough, a brother, James Politis (Victoria) of Wellington, FL, a nephew, Michael and niece, Claire Politis both in FL.

Calling Hours will be Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A Memorial Service in celebration of Penny’s will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.

Linda A. Solhem Lemke, age 69, of Stratford, beloved wife of Sam Lemke, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in Bridgeport Hospital.

Linda, a retired Administrative Assistant for Axa Equitable of Westport, was born in Waterbury to the late Norman and Hazel (Pierce) Solhem and has been a long time Stratford resident.

She was a graduate of Bunnell High School, and enjoyed painting, sewing and crafts, and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees. She loved orangutans and monkeys, and truly loved spoiling her “grand pets.”

Survivors in addition to her beloved husband, include her devoted children, Sam Lemke Jr of Ansonia, Brenda Lemke of Waterbury and Susan Lemke of West Haven, her brother, Ralph Solhem and his wife Ellen of Milford, 2 nieces and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, Art and Roger Solhem.

A graveside funeral service will take place on Monday, February 9th at 10 a.m. inSt. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet Linda’s family on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford.

Michael T. Pisano

Michael T. Pisano, age 53, of Ansonia, Connecticut passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2015.

Michael was born and raised in Agawam, MA. and was a graduate of Commerce High School in Springfield, MA. He later relocated to Connecticut in his early twenties.

Michael was a man full of soul and passion. He was an amazing guitarist and spent most of his free time jamming Rolling Stones or Aerosmith on his twelve string. You would always catch him bragging about one of his favorite teams which included the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox.

Michael always said his greatest accomplishment in life was being a great father. His memory and love will live on in the hearts of many.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law Courtney and David Conway of Seymour, CT, his granddaughter Jenna Conway, his stepdaughter Julie McLeod and her son Nicholas of Oxford, CT, his mother Patricia Goulet of West Springfield, MA, his father and stepmother Richard E. Sr. and Virginia Pisano of Westfield, MA. two brothers Louis Pisano of Westfield, MA , Richard Pisano Jr. and wife Teresa of Los Angeles, CA. one stepsister Alyssa Preston Regul of Los Angeles, CA and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his stepfather Ronald Goulet and stepdaughter Jennifer McLeod.

A Mass of Remembrance for Michael will be held on Saturday February, 14 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Genesis Spiritual Life Conference Center, 53 Mill Street, Westfield, MA 01085.

Jean Marie (Crowley) Cioffi, age 90, of Naugatuck, passed away February 1, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT.

Mrs. Cioffi was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Frank and Elizabeth Crowley.

She was a longtime employee for Universal.

She was predeceased by her husband Bartholomew Cioffi.

Survivors include her devoted daughter Lisa (Gordon) Levesque of Naugatuck, ; two sons Barry (Nancy) Cioffi of California and Paul (Lisa) Cioffi of Shelton; one brother Walter Crowley; two sisters Betty Goodhue, and Ellen Parry; eight grandchildren Lori, Tracy, Marc, Eric, Keith, Sarah, Nicole and Matthew; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Thursday, February 5, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church 182 Robbins St. Waterbury, CT. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Giacoma Crisanti, 86, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2015, at Shady Knoll Health Care in Seymour, with her loving daughter by her side.

Mrs. Crisanti was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy on Feb. 29, 1928, daughter of the late Francesco and Giuseppa Bonnano Iacuzzi.

A resident of Ansonia since 1976, she enjoyed cooking for her family and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughter, Basilla “Celina” Dawid and her husband Nicholas of Ansonia, a brother, Francesco Iacuzzi of Italy, granddaughters, Jacklyn, Daniella, and Adriana Crisanti and Angela F. Dawid as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Antonino Crisanti and a sister, Maria Bonafede.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday Feb. 9, 2015, from 5-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, her funeral will be held at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Entombment will take place in Mt. Josiah J. Bazil, 19, of Ansonia, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Friday February 6, 2015.

Josiah was born in Greenwich, CT on April 13, 1995, loving son of Phillip and Cassandra Nanton Bazil of Ansonia.

A 2014, graduate of Ansonia High School, he was currently a student at Housatonic Community College. At Ansonia, he was a member of the basketball and soccer teams and was also a member of the Bridgeport Eagles in the Premier Soccer League.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joshua Bazil of Ansonia and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015, from 4:00 7:00 pm in the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Edward Butler Jr., a 60 year old resident of Ansonia, passed away Feb. 5.

He was born Oct. 2, 1954 in Derby, son of the late Edward Butler Sr. & Helen Scott Butler.

A graduate of Ansonia High School and stand out basketball player, he worked as a machinist for Sikorsky aircraft and in the kitchen of the Marriott in Shelton.

He was a sports enthusiast and comic book collector, and enjoyed socializing at P.M. Lounge & J.R.B’s, both of Ansonia.

He leaves to cherish his memory his 2 sons, Vaughn R. Butler & James E. “Jake” Butler, both of Ansonia, 3 sisters, Carol Sanders of Seymour, twin sister Debra Butler of Ansonia & Cheryle Butler Pearsall & her husband George of Ansonia, special niece Sheila Butler of Ansonia and special cousins Diane Stroman and Walter Butler, Jr., and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Kevin Butler. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at The Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia. Genevieve “Jean” Biondi

Genevieve “Jean” Biondi, 90, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, February 9, 2015, at Birmingham Health Care in Derby.

She was the beloved wife of Mario Biondi and predeceased by her first husband Salvatore Ferrara Sr.

Mrs. Biondi was born in Shelton on Nov. 28, 1924, daughter of the late Agostino and Madeline Malafronte Salzano.

A resident of Derby for many years, she was employed at Bradlees Department Store in West Haven until her retirement. Jean was an active member of the Ansonia and Derby Senior Centers and enjoyed playing BINGO, visiting the casino and cooking.

She will be remembered for her outgoing and feisty personality and everyone will certainly miss her lasagna and Italian cookies.

She is survived by a son, Salvatore Ferrara Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Wethersfield, a cherished grandson, Brett Ferrara and his wife Kezia of Cromwell, great-grandchildren, Zachary and Khloe Ferrara, sisters in law, Geraldine Ferrara, Irene Ferrara and Gerry Salzano and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Ferrara, grandson, Daniel Ferrara, brothers, Dominic, Alfonso, Augustine and James Salzano and sisters, Mary Donato, Sadie Segatori and Carmela Coppola.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday February 11, 2015, at 11:00 am, in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, with Deacon Richard Renker officiating. Florrie L. Lowe, a 97 year old widow of Robert Lowe Sr. and resident of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on Feb. 8.

She was born April 28, 1917 in Darlington, S.C., daughter of the late Willie Grant Sr. & Rosa Thomas Grant.

She was a longtime member of The Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia and worked as an assembler for UniRoyal Co. of Naugatuck. She was also a member of the church floral club, the J.A.T. Scholarship Committee & the Helping Hand Club of the church.

She leaves to cherish her memory her grandson Richard Lowe of Ansonia, her brother Robert Lowe of New Haven and several nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Richard Lowe, 2 brothers, Ernest & William Grant Sr., sister Willie Mae Spencer, granddaughter Valerie Lowe and longtime friend Gus Hebron.

Allen F. Jachyra, a 56 year old resident of Seymour and husband to Ruth DeForest Jachyra, passed away Feb. 1.

He was born August 20, 1958 in Derby, son of the late Anthony & Anna Cwalinski Jachyra.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked for Practical Automation Co. for 29 years. He was also an avid fisherman and member of the Legion Pool.

In addition to his wife, he leaves 2 sisters, Arlene Jachyra of Derby, & Anna Vincent of Beacon Falls, brother Anthony Jachyra of Boston, MA. & special friends, his dog Baby & cat Irwin.

Susan (Bobbins) Taylor

Susan (Bobbins) Taylor, age 54, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 at home with her husband Dan and her children by her side in Newnan, Georgia.

Susan, a former longtime Seymour CT resident, was born in Derby, daughter of the late Charles and Gloria Bobbins.

She was a caring and loving woman who always took care of her friends and family. Her sense of humor and candor made her loved by all.

She is survived by her husband Dan Taylor, daughter Krystle and her husband A. D. Wallace, son Cody Taylor, stepson Marco Taylor, and stepdaughters Nicole and Cherokee Taylor. She is also survived by her grandchildren Miles and Zoe Wallace, her pride and joy.

Susan was one of eleven children and is survived by her sisters and brothers Rita (David) Monahan, Gloria (John) Anderson, Nora (Fern) Espinel, Jim (Susan), Edward, Steven (Dawn), and Joseph Bobbins and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her three brothers Jeffrey, Philip and Christopher Bobbins.

Wayne Richard Prilipp, age 55, of Seymour, entered into rest on Sunday, February 15, 2015.

He was born in Derby on May 11, 1959, beloved son of Dorothy Cashin Prilipp and the late Albert H. Prilipp.

Wayne attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Oxford and was a graduate of Seymour High School. He was employed by Auto Parts International of Waterbury.

Wayne was an avid fisherman who enjoyed boating, fast cars and making people laugh. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Wayne’s loving family in addition to his beloved mother Dorothy includes his caring sister Karen Quoka and her husband John of Oxford and his cherished niece Pamla Pettinella and her husband Robert of Oxford.

He was predeceased by his beloved sister Dorrine Lee Prilipp.

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour with the Rev. Mary (Migani) Harper Atwater

Mary (Migani) Harper Atwater, age 91, went back home to Jesus on February 17, 2015. She was the wife of the late Samuel Harper, and Carleton Atwater.

Mrs. Atwater was born on May 7th in Ansonia, and was one of eight children born of the late Ceasar and Nazarena Migani.

She was employed by BF Goodrich. Not only was she a longtime member of the St. Thomas Church, Oxford, but sang in the choir and taught CCD classes for many years.

Mary enjoyed being a bingo caller, an avid reader, Chaplain of the Oxford Senior Center, and a sponsor for Overeaters Anonymous. However, the roles she loved the most were that of mother and grandmother to her beloved grandsons, Preston and Tyler Cohen.

She leaves her one daughter, Janice Cohen of Watertown, and her brother, Charles Migani and his wife Helen, of Seymour.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine, Rose, and Jean, and brothers, Andrew and Reno.

Calling Hours are Thursday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 a.m. directly to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford. Interment will be in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.

Angelina Posta Porto, age 94, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Joseph Porto Sr., passed away peacefully on February 16, 2015 in Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her loving family by her side.

Angelina was born on June 17, 1920 in Bridgeport and was the daughter of the late Benedetto and Filomena Ciccone Posta.

Angelina was a great cook and baker, loved to knit, worked from the time she was 16 years old and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, where she worked as an assembler.

Angelina is survived by one son, Joseph Porto Jr. of Shelton, three daughters, Anne Voccola of Stratford, Carole Porto of West Haven and Jeanette Lewin and husband Dr. Marvin of Bradenton, FL, six grandchildren, David, Dina and Jeffery Voccola, Joseph III and Matthew Porto and Jessica Crosland, one brother, John Posta and wife Phyllis of Ansonia, one sister, Lena Smerglinolo of Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband, Joseph, Angelina was also predeceased by three brothers, Carmen, Joseph and Mario Posta and one sister, Theresa Nicita.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Galello- Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford, where a service will be celebrated by Deacon Robert McLaughlin of Our Lady of Grace Church. Entombment will follow in St. Michael’s Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.

Alice Nimons

Alice Nimons, age 77, wife of the late William A. Nimons and resident of Seymour, entered into eternal rest Feb. 24, 2015.

She was born May 24, 1937 in Derby, daughter of the late Peter & Anne Ptak Petryshyn.

She worked as a machine operator for B.F. Goodrich, and also worked for Wiffle Ball Co. in Shelton and Derby Cellular Products.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Earl “Bosco” Nimons.

She is survived by her sons John Nimons (Jen) of Beacon Falls and Scott Nimons (Susan) of Seymour, her brother John Petryshyn (Susan)of Oxford, and grand-daughter Alexandra Nimons of Seymour.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb.  27th 2015 at 12 NOON at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12 NOON. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Arthur A. Robertstad, 61, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2015, at Griffin Hospital. He is the husband of Cynthia Smith Robertstad.

Mr. Robertstad was born in Leesville, Louisiana on July 3, 1953, beloved son of Elizabeth “Betty” Violante Robertstad of Ansonia and the late Carl Robertstad.

A resident of Ansonia for many years, he worked as a machine operator for Kerite Co. in Seymour and Hershey Metal in Ansonia. A proud veteran, he honorably served during the Vietnam Era in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Jessica Smith of Ansonia, a brother, Eirik Robertstad of FL, aunts, Alfreda Doherty of CA and Lorraine Fox of SC.

Art’s funeral service will be private. His entombment will take place in Mt. St. Peter Mausoleum in Derby at the convenience of the family. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with the arrangements.

Irene L. Nanista

Mrs. Irene L. Nanista, age 85, of Seymour beloved wife of the late Joseph S. Nanista entered into peaceful rest on Feb. 22, 2015 at Danbury Hospital.

She was born Nov. 16, 1929, in — South Orange, NJ and was the daughter of the late Albert and Irene (Searfoss) Heyeck.

Mrs. Nanista graduated from West Side High School, Class of 1947 in Newark, NJ.

Mrs. Nanista is survived by her devoted children, Jeffrey Nanista and his wife Rosemary of Norwalk and Kathy Ventresca and her husband Alfred of Sandy Hook and six grandchildren, Kirstyn and Gemma Nanista, Geno, Melena, Alicia and Haley Ventresca.

Her son, John Nanista predeceased her.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Interment will be held in the spring in Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
