Obituary: D. Eleanora Brown, 85, of Ansonia

Valley-OBT-BrownD. Eleanora Brown, age 85, wife of Charles D. Brown an Ansonia resident, entered into eternal rest Jan. 7, 2014.

She was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on August 2, 1928.

She worked as a nursing assistant for United Methodist Home in Shelton and was a member of The Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Ansonia. She was also a member & Past Worthy Matron of The Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory her son Lennie Brown of West Haven, 3 daughters, Isabelle Lacy (James) of Hamden, Karen Brown of Ansonia, Donna McCarroll (Raymond)of East Haven, and 6 grand,  2 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews; brother Kenneth Smith of New York and best friend Vivian Tinney of Ansonia.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter Shaneya Brown, 2 brothers Ralph & Charles Smith, and sister Ann Hall.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14  at 11:00 a.m. at The Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Ansonia. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service. Obituary: Dougles Furtek, 63 of Ansonia

Dougles Furtek, 63 of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 10, at the Shelton Lakes Health Care.

Born in Derby on Sept. 30, 1950 son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Jaderberg) Furtek.

A graduate of the Ansonia High School, he attended Delta State Univ. in Greenville, Miss. and graduated from the Univ. of Missouri in 1974 with a degree in park and rec. management. After graduating he was employed by the Town of Guilford as their Superintendent of Parks. He also was employed at the Ansonia Copper and Brass Co.

Doug and his faithful dog “Hormone” enjoyed their road trips together.

Doug is survived by many close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Charles David Furtek.

A memorial gathering will be announced for April and will be published in this newspaper.

Robert H. “Tut” Tuttle, 75, of Hawthorne Avenue, Derby, died on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Donna (Dumond) Tuttle.

Robert was born January 3, 1939, in Derby to the late Marvin F. Tuttle Sr. and Vivian Louise (Bell) Tuttle.

Raised also by his stepfather John Billing, Robert had served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Unruly & James Gang motorcycle clubs, and had worked at Viking Tool.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Christine Taylor, a brother Douglas Tuttle, two grandchildren, Derek and Brook Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Robin Tuttle; and, a brother, Marvin Tuttle.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, from 1-3pm.

Valley-Milford-OBT-CurleyJ.Russell Curley, 85, beloved husband of June (Stone) Curley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Resident of Derby, formerly of Milford, he was born in Providence, Rhode Island, March 14, 1928, the son of the late Owen and Mary (Malley) Curley.

A graduate of Classical High School in Providence and later from Brown University, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Employed as an electrical engineer for Southern Connecticut Gas Co. for many years until his retirement, he served the Milford community as a Past President Rotarian and was honored with the Paul Harris Fellowship and also served as President of the United Way. Russell is survived by his wife June of 58 years and leaves two daughters, Lisa Lauder and her husband Timothy of Oxford, Martha Curley and her husband Petri Kymlander of Kingston, RI as well as three grandchildren Morgan, Taylor and Ulla. Services will be private.

The Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St. Milford is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary: Richard D. Applebaum, 69, of Stratford

Richard D. Applebaum, age 69, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Applebaum was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on December 31, 1944, son of the late Ronald and Eleanor Miller Applebaum.

Richard was a dedicated Police Officer for the Town of Trumbull for 43 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, before his retirement in December of 2012. Prior to his service to Trumbull, he was a Police Officer for the City of Ansonia.

He was a Civil War enthusiast and was dedicated to helping our veterans by generously donating to help with their needs. He was a supporter of multiple animal charities and an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Arlene Applebaum of Shelton, three nieces, Linda Henri and her husband Dennis Larney, Cathy Moscariello and her husband Jerry all of Ansonia and Lynn Schopp of LA, a nephew, Michael Applebaum and his wife Marcy of TX, three great nieces, Stacy Warner and her husband Justin, Kaela Moscariello and Ashlyn Henri and three great nephews, Ronald Henri, Michael Applebaum and Brandon Judd.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Ronald Applebaum.

At Richard’s request all funeral services were private. Burial took place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Contributions in his memory may be made to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.

Obituary: Vincenzo Marino, 92, of Ansonia

Vincenzo Marino, 92, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday January 19, 2014, at Griffin Hospital, following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Francesca Mignosa Marino.

Mr. Marino was born in Melilli, Sicily, Italy on September 9, 1921, son of the late Sebastiano and Sebastiana Saraceno Marino. He was a resident of Florida and Middletown, CT before moving to Ansonia.

Mr. Marino was employed as a tailor until his retirement.

He is survived by dearest friends and devoted caregivers, Michele and Biagio DiMartino of Ansonia, Godson, Robert Mignosa and Donna Mignosa of New Haven, cousins, Graziella Augeri of Middletown and Sebastiana and Carmelina of Sicily, Italy, friends, Salvatore and Concetta Pennuto of Middletown and Gaetano Giugno of Ansonia and several nieces.

He was predeceased by brothers, Vittorio and Salvatore Marino and a sister, Maria Marino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 22, 2014, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia. Visiting will take place on Wednesday morning from 8:30 am until the procession leaves for church at the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Interment will take place in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.

Valley-OBT-Elizabeth-WheeleElizabeth Wheeler, a 96 year old Derby resident and widow of John S. Wheeler, passed away January 16.

She was born Nov. 13, 1917 in New Haven, daughter of the late William & Bessie Cloughessy.

She was a graduate of Derby High School & the former Ansonia Business College and worked in the Payroll Dept. for Farrel Corp. in Ansonia. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of The Griffin Hospital auxiliary and longtime Griffin volunteer worker, member of The Derby Senior Center and member of The First Congregational Church in Derby.

She is survived by her dear friend, Jean Barkley of Ansonia.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Helen Jenks.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 11:00 a.m. from The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Mrs. Dorothy May (Morris) Bolduc Bartimole, age 86, longtime resident of Oxford, entered into peaceful rest on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at Amber Woods of Farmington.

She was born on April 11, 1927 in Seymour and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mabel (Parmelee) Morris.

She graduated from Seymour High School in 1946. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Albert C. Bolduc and her second husband, John L. Bartimole. She was the Democratic Registrar of Voters for the Town of Oxford for 30 years before her retirement.

She was a communicant of At. Thomas the Apostle Church and was a charter member of the DAV Auxiliary, charter member Little League Mothers of Oxford, Past President of the Democratic Social Club, Oxford Democratic Town Committee & Chairman and was an avid sports fan.

Dorothy is survived by three devoted sons, Donald R. Bolduc (Carol) of Trumbull, James A Bolduc (Vickie) of Inman, SC and Robert H, Bolduc (Lori) of Bristol and seven grandchildren, her brothers, Herbert J. Morris, Jr. of Stratford and George P. Morris of Oxford and several nieces and nephews.

Her brother, William Morris and four sisters, Sara Pierpont, Mary Ostaszeski, Judith Ann Morris and Clara Blizzard predeceased her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Jan. 24 at 9:15 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Interment will be held in the spring. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul R. Tantimonico Sr., age 70, of Milford, beloved and devoted husband of Janice Steimer Tantimonico, went to heaven surrounded by family on Sunday, January 19, 2014.

Born in Bridgeport on February 4, 1943, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary Yoney Tantimonico.

A United States Army veteran, Mr. Tantimonico was a retired Police Officer for the City of Stamford with 24 years of service.

He had a passion for Elvis Presley’s music and was also a New York Yankees fan.

He was a wonderful husband (Pooh), father, Papa and Big Papa.

In addition to his wife Janice, survivors include his children, Dawn Cowell of Shelton, Barbara Farrar and her husband Steven of Pennsylvania, Anthony Tantimonico of Pennsylvania, Paul Tantimonico Jr. and Ann D’Agostino of Trumbull, Paula Tantimonico of Bridgeport, Tracey Tantimonico of Derby and Tammy Seyal of Pennsylvania, a brother, Joseph Tantimonico and his wife Theresa of Huntington and a sister, Barbara Homa Tantimonico of Derby, 26 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Lucy-Lu.

Friends are invited to attend Funeral services that will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. James Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford for a celebration of his life and Mass of Christian Burial. Alice T. Lombardi, 89, a lifelong resident of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, January 20, 2014, at CT Hospice in Branford. She was the beloved wife of Michael Lombardi Jr.

Mrs. Lombardi was born in Derby on August 13, 1924, daughter of the late Mario and Maria DeAngelis Tarini.

She was a graduate of Derby High School and earned her Associates Degree at the former CT Junior College in Bridgeport. She was employed in the clerical dept. at Hull Dye & Print Works in Derby and Brennan Construction in Shelton until her retirement.

Alice was a communicant of St. Jude Church in Derby and enjoyed cooking, reading, painting and knitting and crocheting.

In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by a loving daughter, Marlene L. Cavagnuolo and her husband Joseph of Trumbull, cherished grandson, Jared Cavagnuolo and his fiancée Stephanie Webster of Boston, MA and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Rino, Dino “Leo”, Aldo and Gino Tarini.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 23, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Jude Church, 71 Pleasant View Road in Derby. Interment will take place in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

John was born in Milford on June 11, 1950, beloved son of Julianne Carrol Dickovick and the late Donald J. Dickovick and was a resident of Derby for most of his life.

He was a residential and commercial carpenter for many years. John loved fishing, camping and gardening.

He is the beloved father of Janice Gombas, Kevin Reilly and Laura Reilly; loving brother of, Donald, Lawrence, Todd and Paul Dickovick and the late Catherine Irwin and son-in-law of Alberta Fryer. John is the loving grandfather of Billy. Meghan, Dennis and the late Ria. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral services are private. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton are entrusted with his arrangements.

Obituary: Peter Henry Lovermi Sr., 89, of Derby

Valley-OBT-Lovermi_peterPeter Henry Lovermi, Sr., age 89, of Derby entered into rest on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Griffin Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Amelia Lovermi.

Peter was born in Ansonia, on September 18, 1924, son of the late Domenico Lovermi and Katherine Campo Lovermi DiPaulo.

He was raised in Derby and graduated from Derby High School. He entered into the U.S. Navy in June of 1943 and actively served for three years during WWII, in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific.

Peter was the President of the Lovermi Building Company from 1951 to 1989 where he worked as a mason. He was an officer in the CT Mason’s Contractors Association, a member of the Mason Contractor Association of America and had a certificate from Chicago Technical College for estimates and blueprint reading. Peter was an honorary member of East End Hose Company and also a volunteer for the Boy Scouts Troop #3.

He was a member of the Lion’s Club for 35 years where he served as President for two terms and received the Melvin James Fellowship Award. Peter sponsored softball and basketball teams through Lovermi Building Company. He enjoyed playing cards daily with “the guys” at the Ansonia Senior Center.

He is the beloved father of Gayle Hill (Terry) of Oxford, Peter Henry Lovermi Jr. (Marge) of Ansonia and Christopher Lovermi (Lisa) of Fairlawn, NJ. Peter’s greatest joy was his family, especially his five cherished grandchildren, Allycia, Peter Henry III, Christina and Diana Lovermi and Rose Hill. He also leaves his sister Rose Russo of Derby and brother Dominick DiPaulo of Orange, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph and Paul Lovermi, Angela Lovermi Lindsley, Theresa Matusovich and Anthony and John DiPaulo.

Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Saturday, his funeral will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Church. His burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Anthony J. Zasun, 55, of Seymour, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2014, at Griffin Hospital.

Anthony was born in Derby on December 13, 1958, son of the late Antoni and Sophia Solima Zasun.

He was employed as a painter at Sikorsky Aircraft for twenty-five years.

Anthony was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants and enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling.

He is survived by three sons, Anthony Zasun of Waterbury, Adam Zasun and Alex Zasun of FL, three loving sisters, Christine Szwaba (Zenon) of Naugatuck, Diane Kuzma (Stanley) of Beacon Falls and Julie D’Onofrio (Pat) of Shelton, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many very devoted close friends who were always there for him.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Anthony’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday January 25, 2014, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia. Valley-OBT-Burnell-John David Burnell, Sr., 73, of Seymour the beloved husband of Patricia Gibson Burnell for 55 years entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 26, 2014 peacefully at home.

He was born in Colchester VT on July 13, 1940 the beloved son of the late Robert and Theresa Pecor Burnell.

John was a retired carpet mechanic for BKM of Bridgeport. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and coin collecting.

John loved being with his family and especially his cherished grandchildren and cherished great grandchildren. He moved to Seymour from Shelton in 1976.

John will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His loving family in addition to his beloved wife Patricia includes his caring son Paul D. Burnell (Megan) of Titusville, FL and his beloved brothers Frederick Burnell of AK and Carl Burnell of MA and his loving sisters Corrine of NH and Victoria of CA and 11 cherished grandchildren and 6 cherished great grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his beloved son John D. Burnell, Jr., and his cherished daughter Teresa Burnell and two beloved sisters Theresa and Sally Jo Burnell.

A funeral service in celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday evening January 31, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. Seymour (Rt. 67, opposite Klarides Village). Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives may call at the Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

He was born Dec. 17, 1935 in Derby, son of the late David & Matilda Baldwicz Ahearn.

A veteran of The Korean War, serving in 102nd Infantry Division, he worked as an installer & repairman for S.N.E.T.

David was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Church in Derby and was a member of the Storm Engine Co. in Derby & Ansonia Rod & Gun Club. He was a former Derby Police Commissioner and member of Derby’s Greenway Commission, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Valley Transit District, a member of the Housatonic Lake Authority and served as an arbitrator on CT Consumer Protection Bureau.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son David W. Ahearn of Seymour, his daughter Ellen O’Brien of Old Saybrook, CT his brother Robert Ahearn of Cheshire and seven grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, (DIRECTLY) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Church in Derby. Burial with military honors rendered will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. He was born June 20, 1929 in Derby, son of the late Joseph & Alice Abromaitis DeGennaro Sr.

He worked as a machinist for Farrel Corp., and was past president of the local United Steel Workers Union. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church in Ansonia and a member of the church Men’s Club. He was also a member of the North Ender’s Club and an avid Yankees fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son Joseph Degennaro & his wife Trish of Naugatuck, his daughter Sharon Levinsky & her husband Donald of Beacon Falls, his sister Lillian Norwid of Derby as well as six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Valley-OBT-John-EighmieJohn M. Eighmie age 91 of Seymour entered peaceful rest January 28, 2014 in New Haven; he was the beloved husband of 67 years to Fiore (Rota) Eighmie.

Mr. Eighmie was born February 28, 1922 in Beeckman, NY, son of the late Richard and Sena (Knapp) Eighmie.

He was retired from the Casting Shop from the former Bridgeport Brass Co. in Seymour where he was employed from 1944 to 1983. John was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran serving with the 378th Port Company.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and a member of the Aurora Council #52 Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Emil Senger Post 10, American Legion.

John leaves his loving family including his daughter, Joan Eighmie Rinkewith (Jacy), and his son, Thomas Eighmie (Barbara) all of Seymour, his grandchildren, Jonathan Rinkewith, Joshua Eighmie, Elizabeth Rinkewith Marcucio, and Sarah Brousseau (Mark), and great grandchildren, A.J. Marcucio and Parker Brousseau.

His brothers, Harold, Earl, Ralph, and sisters, Eleanor DeBarber, and Mary Terwillinger predeceased him.

Calling Hours are Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St. Seymour. Funeral Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m., with full Military Honors to follow. Interment will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery (Springtime).

Valley-OBT-DonofrioHelen “Marie” Donofrio, age 78 of Seymour, formerly of Oxford and Ansonia, she went home to the Lord on January 27, 2014 in Derby. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip S. Donofrio, Sr.

Mrs. Donofrio was born March 1,1935 in East Lyme, daughter of the late William and Alice (Osborne) Schreiber.

Marie will be forever remembered as “a friend to even the friendless”. She worked in home health care, and catering. She was a member of Grace Christian Community Church, and was a member of the Ansonia Eagles Club where she was named a Mother of the Year.

Marie enjoyed world travel, music, especially yodeling and listening to Elvis Presley. She was a wonderful host and cook, and took great joy in touching the lives of many by sending them cards. Her thoughtfulness for others preceded her.

Marie leaves her loving family including her sons, Philip S. Donofrio, Jr. (Carol) of Seymour, and Nicholas S. Donofrio of Santa Cruz, CA, and daughters, Lynn M, McPhail of Hamden, and Laurie A. Stewart-Rider (Ron) of Watsonville, CA; her brothers, Arthur Schreiber of West Marland, NH, and Thomas Schreiber of Ashfield, MA; her sisters, Lucy Disthert of Jobstown, NJ, Nancy Tuccio of Shelton, and Peggy Crowther of Oxford; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Her daughter Dawn M. Donofrio and her sister, Idella Schmidt predeceased her.

Calling Hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. Funeral Services in celebration of Marie’s life will be Friday at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.

Valley-OBT-Larry-SoissonLawrence “Larry” Soisson, age 71 of Seymour entered peaceful rest January 28, 2014 in Derby; he was the beloved husband of 48 years to Carol (Oglethorpe) Soisson.

Mr. Soisson was born April 6, 1942 in Connellsville, PA, son of the late George and Catherine (Gerke) Soisson.

Larry was a retired quality assurance inspector after 37 years from Branson Ultrasonic’s, Danbury. He was a communicant of St. Augustine Church. Larry was an avid golfer and formerly enjoyed playing softball.

He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams; however, his favorite sport was watching his grandson play baseball. Larry enjoyed listening to Country Music and was a Ford Mustang Enthusiast.

Besides his wife, Larry leaves his loving family including, his son, Jeffrey S. Soisson (Kelly) of Beacon Falls, his daughter, Colleen Menis (Alfred) of North Reading, MA, his siblings, Kathleen Cocks (Ted) of Newport, N.C., Nancy Dye (John) of Connellsville, PA, and William Soisson (Eleanor) of Freidens, PA, his grandchildren, Kyle, Parker, Jason, and Maya, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours are Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Church (DIRECTLY), 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment will be in St Augustine Cemetery (Springtime).
