Obituary: Emma Hyman, 94, of Shelton

Emma Hyman, age 94, of Shelton, entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, February 2, 2014 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles Hyman.

Mrs. Hyman was born in Derby on July 25, 1919, daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Olga (Rubelmann) Sauermann, and was a lifelong Shelton resident.

She was a sales clerk at the former Krieger Hardware and Linnett Hardware Stores for over 15 years until her retirement in 1975, and she also worked as a food service employee at Sunnyside School in Shelton. She was a former member of the Sunnyside PTA and a former Girl Scout leader.

Emma was a member of the former Shelton Congregational Church where she taught Sunday School. The most important role Emma took on in her life was caregiver to her family , and many friends.

She is the beloved mother of Christine Crawford and her husband Judson of Shelton, Bertha Guarrera and her husband James of Shelton, and Darlene McGowan and her husband Brian of Seymour. She is the cherished grandmother of Cathy and Paul Dickovick, Stephen and Christine Guarrera, Melissa and Stephen Souza, Erin McGowan, and Meghan McGowan. She is the adoring great grandmother of Cortney, T. J., Will, Ben, Sam, Harrison, and Emma Rose, and also leaves several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother Frank Henry Sauermann, and two sisters Edith Bertha Pompa, and Helene Russell.

Friends may greet her family on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Friday her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM for a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Huntington Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.

Obituary: Cora Marie LaLuna, 86, of Milford

Cora Marie LaLuna, age 86, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Anthony LaLuna, died Sunday February 2, 2014 at West River Health Care Center.

Cora was born October 15, 1927 in Easton, CT, daughter of the late John and Lillie (Moll) Hofmann.

After attending local schools, she held various positions within the retail industry. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish as well as the Ladies Guild and the Rosary Society.

Mrs. LaLuna is survived by her devoted children; Raymond LaLuna of Shelton, Anthony and Diane LaLuna of Orange, Linda and Robert Tschilske of Milford and Kathy and Joseph Lawruszko of Milford. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Mullins of Bridgeport, 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her loving husband and parents Cora is predeceased by her 6 brothers and sisters and a daughter-in-law Kathleen LaLuna.

Calling hours are Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 5th at 10:00 am meeting DIRECTLY at St. Lawrence Church, 207 Main Street, West Haven. Interment will be private.

Valley-OBT-Constance-LopesConstance Lopes, age 91, wife of the late Lewis Lopes Jr. and resident of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest Jan. 29, 2014.

She was born Oct. 27, 1922 in New Haven, daughter of the late Bernard & Olivia Bell Cabrel.

She worked for Ansonia Board of Education for 18 years, retiring in 1989. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia.

In addition to her husband, Constance was predeceased by her son, Lewis Lopes III. She leaves her son Dennis W. Lopes of Annapolis, MD., two daughters Cynthia Moreno of New Haven & Gwendylyn Lopes of Ansonia, 2 sisters Christine Bhatti of New Haven & Carolyn Cabrel Williams of Charlotte, N.C. and 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are private. She will be buried in the family plot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. There are no calling hours. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, is entrusted with arrangements.

Obituary: Timothy S. O’Connor Sr., 88, of Ansonia

Timothy S. O’Connor, Sr., age 88, of Ansonia entered into rest on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Shady Knoll Health Care in Seymour. Tim was the devoted husband of 59 years to Mary Pat (Sullivan) O’Connor.

He was born in Castlegregory, County Kerry in Ireland on December 26, 1925, son of the late Timothy and Margaret (Scannell) O’Connor.

He proudly served his country as Veteran in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Tim was employed at the New Haven Register as a printer until his retirement in 1990.

He was very active in St. Joseph Church in Shelton, as an Usher, Reader and Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered more than 7500 hours over a 10 year period at the Fr. McGivney Cancer Center at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He was a Knight of Columbus at the Assumption Church and volunteered at the Spooner House.

He is the beloved father of Sr. Ellen O’Connor A.S.C.Q. , T. Stephen O’Connor, Jr. and his wife Mary, Amy O’Connor and her husband Edward Dean and Carol Bowers and her husband Gary. He is the beloved grandfather of Kyle, Kevin, Keith, Kate and Kelly O’Connor, Danielle and Tara Dean, Ryan and Carli Cioppa and Tara and Justin Bowers, great grandfather of Logan, Nathan and Alice Bowers , and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother and five sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 PM. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Wednesday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 AM. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. at St. Joseph Church 420 Coram Ave. Shelton. Valley-OBT-KucsynskiJoseph “Kutz” Kuczynski Jr., a 62 year old resident of Beacon Falls, formerly of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest after a long illness Jan 29.

He was born June 3, 1951, in Derby to the late Joseph & Anna Kuczynski.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Deanna Zielinski, Stacy (Donald R) Becker, Christopher (Jan) Kuczynski, & Steven Kuczynski. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jessica, Bradley, Brandon and Jacob Becker, & Tyler, Sara and Nicholas Kuczynski; his former wife, Sophie (William) Mendyka; aunt/godmother, Taheothila Lakomski; his dear friend, Tess Flannery and many cousins and close friends.

Joseph was active in Ansonia Civil Defense for over 40 years, was a 35-year member of Hotchkiss Hose Fire Co. #1 in Derby and a member of Mill Plain Independent Hose Co. in Danbury. He was an avid New York Giants and Yankees fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb 7, at 10:00 a.m. (DIRECTLY) at St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Derby. She was born July 11, 1931 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, daughter of the late Lonnie & Rammie Thomas Sr.

She worked as a home health care provider for V.N.A and was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia. She was also a member of The Sheeba Chapter #1, Order of the Eastern Star, in Ansonia. She also attended the Clelian Adult Day Center in Hamden.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Karen Thomas McGibony (Charles) of New Haven, 3 sisters, Tina McNair & Creola Goodson, (Roger) both of Hamden, & Anna Douglas (Julius) of Ansonia, and granddaughter Lauren Thomas and great grandson Jordan Thomas Threet, both of New Haven.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Rosa Brock & brothers Ernest Lonnie & Arthur Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Marcia E. (Greene) Gunter, age 67, of Oxford and formerly of Beacon Falls entered into eternal rest on February 6, 2014 at Griffin Hospital, Derby.

She was born October 4, 1946 in New Haven and was the daughter of the late James P. and Ernestine Audrey (Schaefer) Greene.

Marcia was an x-ray technician at Griffin Hospital for 20 years before her retirement.

She was a devoted grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Marcia is survived by her three children Michael Shawn Grable of Anderson, Indiana, Michelle Lynn Poudrier of Prospect and Matthew Carson Grable of Tolland, her brothers, Leonard Greene of Beacon Falls and Kenneth Greene of Oxford. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren Connor Poudrier, Emily and Charlotte Grable and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother James P. Greene.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 10:00 to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service in Celebration of Marcia’s Life at 11:00 a.m. at the Ralph E. Funeral Home, 161 W. Church Street. Seymour.

Obituary: Mark A. Velardi, 53, of Ansonia

Mark A. Velardi, 53, of Ansonia, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2014, while visiting his sister in Colorado. He was the devoted husband of Charlene M. Valeria Velardi.

Mark was born in New Haven on March 10, 1960, beloved son of Dorothy Casiero Velardi of Port St. Lucie, FL and the late Joseph Velardi.

He was a graduate of West Haven High School Class of 1978, where he was captain of the football team earning All-State Honors.

A resident of the Ansonia community for 26 years, he was the owner of Mark Velardi General Carpentry.

Mark was very conscientious and took great pride in his work. He served as president of the former Ansonia Pop Warner.

In addition to his wife Charlene, he is survived by a loving son, David J. Velardi and a loving daughter, Samantha Velardi of Ansonia, three brothers, Joseph Velardi (Ellen) and John Velardi (Paula) of Bethany and Paul Velardi (Renee) of Ansonia, two sisters, Mary Ann Binkley (Steven) of CO and Laura Velardi (John Hallonquist) of FL, father in law, John Valeria of Ansonia, sister in law, Deborah DiDio (John) of VA, dear friends, Kelly and Jan Curtis of Derby, his “Friday Song Crew”, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday February 14, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. John J. Scavone, 73, of Ansonia, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Sunday February 16, 2014, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Linda Bodak Scavone.

Mr. Scavone was born in Derby on June 23, 1940, son of the late Michael and Rose Grillo Scavone.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as an electronics technician for S.N.E.T. /AT&T for many years until his retirement.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman and former member of High Rock Sportsmen Club in Beacon Falls. He was also a member of the AT&T Pioneers and a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.

In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by two loving sons, John J. Scavone Jr. (Jessica) of Trumbull and Brian M. Scavone and his fiancée Nicole Etue of Seymour, a loving daughter, Debora Lynn Goldman (Andrew) of Stow, MA, a brother, Joseph Scavone (Dorothy) of Shelton, two cherished grandsons, John J. Scavone III and Bradley L. Scavone of Trumbull, brother in law, Stephen Bodak (Bonnie) of Dennisport, MA, sister in law, Carol Bodak of East Haven and several nieces and nephews that were very dear to him.

He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Santelli.

Mrs. Stella A. (Amico) Cusano Alicandro, age 90, of Seymour, beloved wife of the late John Alicandro, Sr. entered into peaceful rest on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Bishop Wicke in Shelton.

She was born on May 30, 1923 in Seymour and was the daughter of the late Alphonso and Lorenza (Brucaleri) Amico.

Stella was a longtime Seymour resident and in later years resided with her daughter. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family. She was an avid NY Yankees fan and UConn Huskies Girls Basketball fan where she coached the girls from her recliner during every game. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and playing poker with family and friends.

Stella is survived by her devoted daughter, Linda Ragozzine and her husband John of Seymour, daughter in law, Betty Ann Cusano of Southbury, grandchildren, Darcey Alsdorf, Jesse Cusano, Jody Heffernan, John Ragozzine and Daniel Cusano, great grandchildren, Haley, Nathan, Carolyn, Emma, Tyler, Mason, Paige, Stella and Hazel. She also leaves her brothers, Frederick Amico of Springfield, VA and Al Amico of NY, her sisters, Antoinette “Toni” Wilber and Florence Cormack both of Seymour and several nieces and nephews.

Her sons, Daniel C. Cusano and Anthony “Corky” Cusano, brothers, Thomas, Jack and Mario Amico and sister, Grace Conklin predeceased her.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11:15 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Augustine’s Church, Seymour. Interment to follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. He was born May 23, 1938 in Bridgeport CT, son of the late Daniel & Jennie Kondor Kardos.

Daniel was a retired union truck driver for Preston Trucking, and was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Church in Derby.

He is survived by her son Daniel R. Kardos Jr & his wife Diane of Naugatuck, 2 daughters, Doreen Gilbert & her husband Marvin of Naugatuck & Sandra Kyle and her husband James of Ansonia, 4 brothers, Jack Kardos of Stratford, Ronald Kardos of North Carolina, Robert Kardos of San Diego, CA & Terrance Kardos of Ansonia and 5 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister Janet Kardos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25  at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Obituary: Frank J. Dobek Sr., 77, of Derby

Frank J. Dobek, Sr., age 77, of Derby entered into rest on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the VA Hospital in West Haven. He was the devoted husband of Donna (Tumidajski) Dobek.

Frank was born in Derby on June 23, 1936 son of the late Frank and Julia (Turaj) Dobek and was a lifelong Derby resident.

He was employed by the City of Derby for many years until his retirement. Frank was also a former employee of B.F. Goodrich. He served with the U.S. Army during Korea.

Frank was an avid fan of UCONN Basketball, Notre Dame Football, and the N.Y. Giants Football. He coached Derby Pop Warner football for many years. He enjoyed playing pinochle, poker, golf, tinkering with electronics, woodworking and gardening.

He loved Polish holiday traditions and made his own kolbasi. Frank was a lifelong member of the Catholic War Veterans St. Michael Post 1562 and served for many years as a commander of the CWV firing squad. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren who were the light of his life.

Frank was the beloved father of Frank Dobek, Jr. and his wife Erin and brother of Stanley Dobek. He was the beloved grandfather of Brynne, Ania and Frank Julian Dobek III. Frank is predeceased by his brothers, John, Joseph, Raymond, Eugene and Walter Dobek. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday Feb.27th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. His Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, with full military honors to follow, will be held on Friday Feb. 28th at 11am in St. Michael’s Church, 75 Derby Ave. Derby.

Born in Ansonia Connecticut, January 5, 1917, daughter of Thomas and Viola Pitt, predeceased by her husband Arthur L Stahl, son Alan T Stahl, and Grandson Nathaniel Stahl brother Thomas Pitt and sisters Marjorie Steeves and Hilda Iles,.

She leaves her son Craig A Stahl, his wife Elizabeth, Grandsons Joshua I Stahl, Christian A Stahl and, granddaughter Carrie Foster, her husband John and great grandsons, Cage and Ashur Foster. Step Grandchildren, Jennifer Snow and Brendan Snow. Former daughter-in-laws Gretchen C Stahl and Cheri L Stahl.

Edith graduated from Ansonia High School, Class of 1934, Arcadia University formally Beaver College, Class of 1938. She was the dietitian at Griffin Hospital during and after WWII and office manager for Stahls’ Automobile dealership in Derby for many years, until retirement.

Devoted member of the Orange Congregational Church since 1955 when she moved to Orange from Ansonia with her family. Edith was a proud lifelong member of the Order of Odd Fellows and Rebecca Lodges.

A memorial service will be held at the Orange Congregational Church on Saturday March 1, 2014 at 11:00AM. There will be no calling hours; burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Obituary: Paul Pawlak Sr., 96, formerly of Seymour

Valley-OBT-PawlakPaul Pawlak, Sr., age 96, beloved husband of Mildred Spak Pawlak, died February 23, 2014 at the Highlands Health Care Center, Cheshire.

Born in Shelton on July 28, 1917, he was the son of the late Wasil and Anna Sklarska Pawlak.

Mr. Pawlak resided in Seymour for many years and graduated from Seymour High School. He worked as an electrician for the Farrel Co. for over 40 years until the time of his retirement in 1986. He tirelessly served the Seymour Community in the capacity of 1st Selectman for a four year term, 2nd Selectman for an eight year term, Chairman of the Board of Education for a 12 year term, and in the State of CT, House of Representatives for a 12 year term.

He was a lifelong Democrat and member of the Seymour Democratic Town Committee. Mr. Pawlak helped to form the Valley Council of Governments and served as its first Chairman; he was the first Chairman of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Public Health Department and a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Health Nursing and Homemaker’s Services.

While serving in the CT Legislature, Mr. Pawlak was the Chairman of the Water Resources Committee, he was an outspoken advocate for Connecticut’s environment and its waterways. He helped to fashion the State’s Clean Waters Act that mandated an end to industrial and residential pollution. Proud of his heritage, Mr. Pawlak was also a lifelong Communicant and Member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Ansonia.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 75 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Paul Pawlak, Jr. and his wife Connie of MA, Joseph Pawlak and his wife, Patricia of Watertown, David M. Pawlak of IA and Richard G. Pawlak and his wife Yvonne of MA; a brother, Andrew Pawlak and his wife Marilyn of SC; seven cherished grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Olga Mahoney; and brothers, Michael, Steven, Joseph and Peter Pawlak.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Springtime interment will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Panikhida at 6:30 PM.

Gunnar Holt, age 87 and husband to Alice Holt, a longtime resident of Seymour currently of Shelton, passed away Feb. 25 at Gardner Heights of Shelton.

He was born Nov. 15, 1926 in Bridgeport CT son of the late Torjus & Olga Bjornstad Holt.

Gunnar was a Veteran of U.S. Army and served in the CT National Guard, and worked as a banker with City Trust Co. of Bridgeport. He also served as former President of Pine Rock Park Civic Assoc.

He leaves two sons, David Holt & wife Pam of Naugatuck & Jeffrey Holt of Oxford, 1 granddaughter & 2 nephews.

Valley-OBT-Howard-Simpson-JHoward Eugene Simpson, Jr.,age 71, beloved husband of 51 years to Judith (DuPaul) Simpson of Seymour entered into eternal rest on February 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 29, 1942 in Derby and was the son of the late Howard Eugene Simpson, Sr. and Doris (McCormack) Simpson.

Mr. Simpson worked as a security officer at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for 24 years before his retirement.

Mr. Simpson was very active in the Seymour community serving on the Seymour Democratic Town Committee and Board of Police Commissioners, 4 years as Chairman and several other boards. He was a member of the Aurora Council, Third Degree and he was a Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was involved in the Ancient Order of Hiberians, the Alter Guild Church of the Assumption, served as a Eucharist Minister and generously volunteered his time to coaching youth baseball in the George J. Hummel Little League.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three children Debra Schwartz (Jay) of North Haven, Howard E. Simpson (Joanne) of Redding and James E. Simpson of Seymour; his grandchildren were the joys of his life, Shannon Hirth (Justin), Rebecca and James Schwartz, Jr., Gabrielle and James Simpson, Jr. and Emma and Ella Simpson; and a great grandson, Cameron Hirth.

His daughter, Denise L. Simpson predeceased him.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 1 at 10:15 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church Street, Seymour, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, Ansonia. Interment will be held in private. Family and friends may call on Friday, Feb. 28 from 4 -8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Valley-OBT-Beauregard-2Henry Roland Beauregard, age 84, of Seymour, the beloved husband of 59 years of Regina Fatek Beauregard, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Griffin Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Waterbury on June 28, 1929, beloved son of the late Aldas and Regina Dansereau Beauregard.

Henry was a devout communicant of St. Augustine Church of Seymour where he had lived for 60 years. He was a Truck Driver for Uniroyal, Inc and also was a long time School Bus Driver for All Star Transportation, Laidlaw Co. and Trevelin Bus Service.

Henry was a backyard mechanic and along with his wife Regina, loved to travel, especially on senior bus trips. Together they visited many fun places including Las Vegas, Nashville, Nova Scotia and Florida.  Henry will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

His loving family, in addition to his wife Regina, includes his loving daughter Joanne Beauregard of Gorham, ME, his loving son Wayne Beauregard and his wife Lisa of Nashua, NH, his caring cousin Lucille Dwyer and her husband Albert of Waterbury and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry was predeceased by his brothers Roland and Jean Beauregard.

Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Griffin Hospital and the Inpatient Hospice program for the comforting and compassionate care that was provided.

A Funeral Service in Celebration of Henry’s Life will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 9:30 am in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am at St. Augustine Church, 35 Washington Ave, Seymour. Interment in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury will follow. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, March 5, 2014 from 8:00 to 9:30.

Elizabeth Hudson, age 73, of Derby, wife of the late Reginald Hudson, died suddenly on February 27, 2014 at Griffin Hospital.

Born in Honesdale, PA on July 30, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Howard Dewitt Smith.

Mrs. Hudson was a long time resident of Norwalk before moving to Derby 8 years ago.

She enjoyed being a “Nanny” and her well earned nickname “Nana” as she was referred to by all. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for the entire family.

She survived by her devoted children, Pamela Ross (Chris) of Ansonia, Deborah Banks of CO, Susan Hudson of Derby, Michael Patenaude of Woodstock and James Patenaude of Norwalk; brothers, Richard (Kay) Smith of Stratford and John Smith of PA; eight cherished grandchildren; and three cherished great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Smith and a granddaughter, Krystal Hudson.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service.

Frances Dawid, 75, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 2, 2014, at Shelton Lakes/Apple Rehab in Shelton, following a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Charles L. Dawid.

Mrs. Dawid was born in Bridgeport on July 5, 1938, daughter of the late Arthur and Loretta Reylea.

She was a resident of Bridgeport and Oxford and then moved to Ansonia five years ago. Frances was employed as a team leader at the former U.S. Surgical in North Haven for twenty years until her retirement.

She enjoyed arts & crafts and playing bingo.

In addition to her husband Charles, she is survived by a loving son, Nicholas Dawid (Basilla) of Ansonia, two loving daughters, Tina Dawid of Naugatuck and Lori Smith (Ken) of Higganum, a sister, Carol Reylea of AZ, cherished grandchildren, Angela Dawid of Ansonia, Christopher Padilla (Denia) of TN and Eric Padilla of FL and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Frederick Reylea.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday March 5, 2014, from 4:30-6:30 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 6:30 pm, a funeral service and celebration of Frances’s life will take place with Deacon Richard Renker officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Mountain Meadows Cemetery in Seymour.

Janet E. Phillips, 58, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 28, 2014, at Griffin Hospital. She is the beloved wife of Gerald A. “Cooper” Phillips.

Janet was born in Derby on September 19, 1955, daughter of the late Stephen and Carolyn Novi Williams. She was employed at the former Life Touch Photo Studio’s in Derby and later as a deli clerk at Adams Supermarket in Derby.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving family including a son, Darryn Phillips, a daughter, Tierra Phillips, a brother, Stephen Williams, a sister, Ellen Williams and a granddaughter, Cali Rae McNeil all of Ansonia.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Janet’s funeral service and celebration of her life on Monday March 10, 2014, at 6:00 pm at Cornerstone Christian Center (satellite office), 192 Meadow Street in Milford with Pastor Alfred D. Watts officiating. Burial will be private.
