Michael J. Lombardi Jr.

Michael J. Lombardi Jr., 89, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2014, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice Tarini Lombardi, who passed away on January 20, 2014.

Mr. Lombardi was born in Derby on November 6, 1924, son of the late Michael and Anna Esposito Lombardi.

A lifelong resident of the Derby community, he was employed at the former Hull Dye and Print Works, Lifetouch Studios and Mega Motors, all in Derby, until his retirement.

A proud veteran, he honorably served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during WW II. He was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart for his injuries received during combat. Mike was a member of the Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. # 4 in Derby where he served as Captain in 1966 and was also a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Derby.

He was an excellent cook who loved to eat, enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the UConn women, and was an avid NY Yankees fan.

He is survived by a loving and devoted daughter, Marlene L. Cavagnuolo (Joseph) of Trumbull, a loving brother, Robert Lombardi (Genevieve) of Derby, cherished grandson, Jared Cavagnuolo (fiancée Stephanie Webster) of Boston, MA and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by brothers, John, Vincent “Jim”, and Gennaro “Jerry” Lombardi and sisters, Camille Lampert, Josephine Esposito and Ann Kross.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 9, 2014, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Jude’s Church in Derby. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will take place in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

Memorial contributions in Mike’s memory may be made to Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. # 4, Storm Ambulance Corps. #2 or the V.A. Medical Center in West Haven, through the funeral home.
