Anthony Staffieri, age 91, husband of the late Doris Staffieri and Ansonia resident, entered into eternal rest peacefully at home Sept. 14.
He was born in Derby July 8, 1923 to the late Joseph & Rose Garofalo Staffieri and was a retired Ansonia Police Sergeant.
He was a graduate of Ansonia High school, where he played football and baseball and excelled in track. He was an avid N.Y. Giants & Mets fan. Anthony was a WWII Marine Corp. Veteran, serving in G Company, 2nd Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division in Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. He earned the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in fighting on the Island of Tinian in the South Pacific.
He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Rosary Council and a charter member of The Hilltop Hose Fire Co.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Sharon Staffieri-Laccone & her husband Bob of Derby, his brother Joseph Staffieri of Orange and sister Mary Milano of Norwalk, sisters in law Jean Leahy of Ansonia & Frances Hulley of Stratford, brother in law Fred Hulley of Stratford, and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother Orlando Staffieri.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10:00 a.m., with friends asked to go directly to Holy Rosary Church. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia.
Friends who wish may make donations to the Ansonia Animal Shelter or Holy Rosary Church.
