Obituary: Peter Henry Lovermi Sr., 89, of Derby

Valley-OBT-Lovermi_peterPeter Henry Lovermi, Sr., age 89, of Derby entered into rest on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Griffin Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Amelia Lovermi.

Peter was born in Ansonia, on September 18, 1924, son of the late Domenico Lovermi and Katherine Campo Lovermi DiPaulo.

He was raised in Derby and graduated from Derby High School. He entered into the U.S. Navy in June of 1943 and actively served for three years during WWII, in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific.

Peter was the President of the Lovermi Building Company from 1951 to 1989 where he worked as a mason. He was an officer in the CT Mason’s Contractors Association, a member of the Mason Contractor Association of America and had a certificate from Chicago Technical College for estimates and blueprint reading. Peter was an honorary member of East End Hose Company and also a volunteer for the Boy Scouts Troop #3.

He was a member of the Lion’s Club for 35 years where he served as President for two terms and received the Melvin James Fellowship Award. Peter sponsored softball and basketball teams through Lovermi Building Company. He enjoyed playing cards daily with “the guys” at the Ansonia Senior Center.

He is the beloved father of Gayle Hill (Terry) of Oxford, Peter Henry Lovermi Jr. (Marge) of Ansonia and Christopher Lovermi (Lisa) of Fairlawn, NJ. Peter’s greatest joy was his family, especially his five cherished grandchildren, Allycia, Peter Henry III, Christina and Diana Lovermi and Rose Hill. He also leaves his sister Rose Russo of Derby and brother Dominick DiPaulo of Orange, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph and Paul Lovermi, Angela Lovermi Lindsley, Theresa Matusovich and Anthony and John DiPaulo.

Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Saturday, his funeral will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Church. His burial with military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery.
